Ready Set Pedal

A charity bike ride has changed my life :)

About This Novice Road Cyclist

Hello World 🙂

I started this blog to chronicle my journey towards an epic charitable event – the 2012 Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer! The event entailed cycling from Vancouver to Seattle over the course of 2 days – a total of 250km. I was so nervous & excited, as this was the toughest physical challenge I had ever set myself up for. But I made it and fell in love with cycling in the process!

On June 16 – 17, 2012 I was part of the 3,011 cyclists who raised over $11 million for the BC Cancer Foundation. I had set up a corporate cycling team at my work place – and between the 8 of us, we managed to raise just over $25,000.

So I am road cycling newbie  – with a passion for learning more about this sport, cycling farther distances and meeting more fellow cyclists.

I cycle as often as I can because I love it …. and of course I do other sports too – hiking, skiing, tennis. I am lucky enough to live in Vancouver, B.C. which is one of the BEST places on earth to be active.

So many options & one big beautiful backyard full of beaches, trails, mountains, rivers and more! 🙂

  1. Awesome you’re picking up cycling! I just picked it up two January’s ago and MASSIVE improvement! I entered the Vanfondo too and am in this year’s Penticton Fondo (July 8) and Valley Fondo through Langley (July 22). Congrats on the huge fundraise for Cancer! Keep it up! Don’t know if you’ve gotten the clip-in pedals yet or not, but they make a HUGE difference… much easier!

    • Thank you – Good luck for the upcoming Fondos!! They’re on my 2013 bucket list – will have to pick ur brain for some tips 🙂

Yes I’ve since graduated to Look clip-in pedals & Bontrager road cycling shoes. No more Nikes!!

Need to work on keeping my heels down – but they are GREAT. You feel more connected to your bike.
